Participate in Our Research

Overview: All participants in this study will receive virtual Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD delivered daily over the course of two weeks (10 sessions over 10 days). Based on study eligibility criteria, some participants may be offered an additional course of virtual treatment—either additional sessions of CPT, Processing Emotions (PE) therapy, or Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR).    

Partial Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible to participate in this study, individuals must: (1) be 18 years or older; (2) reside in Illinois; (3) have experienced a traumatic event in their lifetime; (4) be interested in receiving 10 therapy sessions over the course of two weeks (10 days) with the possibility of additional sessions.   

Participants will be compensated for completing study assessments. 

Overview:

This study compares 1-week of Cognitive Processing Therapy and two Stellate Ganglion Blocks (SGB) OR two placebo saline injections. A SGB is a minimally invasive injection of medication in the neck which helps provide symptom relief for those with PTSD by working with the nervous system. The procedure is safe with minimal risks or side effects. We are studying how effective a SGB is when combined with Cognitive Processing Therapy. To do so, participants will be randomized to receive either two active Stellate Ganglion Blocks or two placebo saline injections and complete 1-week of CPT.  

Participants will be required to attend two in-person visits at Rush to receive their injections by a trained professional. Study assessments and CPT are conducted virtually.   

Participants must be 18 years old and reside in Illinois.  

Participants will be compensated for completing study assessments.
