The Road Home Program is located in Chicago but available to service members, reservists, members of the National Guard and veterans across the country. We specialize in a two-week treatment called the Intensive Outpatient Program that is available to the military community at no cost.

INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM

The Intensive Outpatient Program condenses 6 months of therapy into 2 weeks to give you the tools you need to manage your mental wellness and contribute to the operational readiness of your unit. We offer two separate tracks of treatment in the IOP — military sexual trauma and combat and traumatic event trauma. Both tracks are mixed-gender and open to veterans and service members.

Military Sexual Trauma Track
The Intensive Outpatient Program offers specialized support for service members and veterans who have endured the devastating effects of sexual harassment or assault while serving in uniform. We are dedicated to providing a safe and understanding environment where survivors can heal and reclaim their lives.

Combat and Traumatic Event Track
The Intensive Outpatient Program offers targeted care to address traumatic events during service in the armed forces, including combat scenarios, training accidents, or hazing incidents. Our team is committed to assisting individuals on their journey toward recovery and resilience.

Participants will attend a daily schedule of programming Monday through Friday (0700 to 1730). Each treatment plan is unique, but you should expect a daily regimen of individual therapy, group therapy, stress-reduction training, wellness practices, nutritional education and mindfulness meditation.

In both the Combat track and the MST track, we include auxiliary support to address alcohol and substance use issues and traumatic brain injury when warranted.

Frequently asked questions about the Intensive Outpatient Program

The intake process can take up to two weeks to complete. To begin the process, you will receive an email with documents to complete, including a request-for-information form. Once we have received the completed documents, an intake clinician will be assigned to you to conduct an initial intake appointment. This interview will last about 60 – 90 minutes. The clinician will ask you a series of questions about your background, symptoms and goals. The appointment can be conducted via telephone, video or in-person.

The second part of the intake process includes a symptom questionnaire to fill out and a follow-up appointment with your intake clinician. After that is completed, your intake clinician will meet with the RHP team to collaboratively decide if our program is the best fit for you. Upon acceptance, your intake clinician will call you to discuss next steps.

If you or our team determine that the IOP is not the right clinical program, we will connect you with referrals to other treatment options.

IOP TREATMENT RESULTS

Two-weeks of PTSD symptom reduction during the Intensive Outpatient Program

Proven Outcomes
After two weeks of treatment, 80% of IOP participants demonstrate a substantial
reduction in symptoms of PTSD and 51% fall below the diagnostic threshold for PTSD.

Lasting Results
In surveys taken one year after treatment, IOP graduates confirm significant symptom reductions of PTSD and depression and overall improvement in their quality of life.
