FOR VETERANS OR ANYONE WITH TRAUMA

Research studies for veterans, family members, and civilians with PTSD. All participants must be 18 years or older and reside in Illinois.

Treatment Options Trial (TOT)

Comparing 1-Week Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Relaxation Training

Overview: All participants in this study will receive virtual Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD delivered daily over the course of two weeks (10 sessions over 10 days). Based on study eligibility criteria, some participants may be offered an additional course of virtual treatment—either additional sessions of CPT, Processing Emotions (PE) therapy, or Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR).

Partial Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible to participate in this study, individuals must: (1) be 18 years or older; (2) reside in Illinois; (3) have experienced a traumatic event in their lifetime; (4) be interested in receiving 10 therapy sessions over the course of two weeks (10 days) with the possibility of additional sessions.

Participants will be compensated for completing study assessments.

Currently Recruiting:
Combined 1-week Virtual CPT and Stellate Ganglion Block Treatment

Overview:

This study compares 1-week of Cognitive Processing Therapy and two Stellate Ganglion Blocks (SGB) OR two placebo saline injections. A SGB is a minimally invasive injection of medication in the neck which helps provide symptom relief for those with PTSD by working with the nervous system. The procedure is safe with minimal risks or side effects. We are studying how effective a SGB is when combined with Cognitive Processing Therapy. To do so, participants will be randomized to receive either two active Stellate Ganglion Blocks or two placebo saline injections and complete 1-week of CPT.

Participants will be required to attend two in-person visits at Rush to receive their injections by a trained professional. Study assessments and CPT are conducted virtually.

Participants must be 18 years old and reside in Illinois.

Participants will be compensated for completing study assessments.

MAPPS Intake Study

Overview: Help us identify factors that may predict long-term treatment success! Your participation would involve completing a typical intake appointment but allowing it to be audio recorded for data analysis.

Perks: You would not need to complete any additional surveys/interviews for this study. You would also be compensated $50 for completing the study.

MAPP Study: Help us find easier ways to improve your health!

Overview: We are studying ways to make your treatment even more personalized and effective. This study involves participating in one or more forms of additional data collection, such as wearing a Fitbit, completing tests of your working memory, recording therapy sessions, or wearing an electroencephalogram (EEG) to record brain signals. You can choose which aspects of the study to participate in and what data to share. We will not record any sessions without your permission. Data is stored in a HIPAA-compliant secure database.

Perks: Help us understand how PTSD impacts your thinking, speech, and behavior in a deeper way than we can with surveys alone. You will also be compensated up to $700 based on how much of the study you complete.
