PTSD and substance abuse are co-morbid conditions that frequently deny veterans acceptance into treatment programs. We developed a special track to our IOP that equips at-risk individuals with skills to understand triggers, manage urges and adopt coping strategies. Early results are promising and consistent. Participants in this modified curriculum finish with outcomes that are equivalent to other IOP participants.

Predicting success for the hard to treat

Since 2016, 68 postdoctoral fellows in psychology, social work interns, resident physicians in psychiatry and medical students have trained at the Road Home Program. Our team leads the nation in efforts to educate care providers on the latest evidence-based treatment of military sexual trauma and our Effingham team trains mental health professionals across Illinois to help ease the mental health care desert in rural America.
