THE CENTER FOR VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES AT RUSH
Music Box Theatre
Thad Rydberg, Clinical Director at the Road Home Program, joins Chicago native and film director Shawn Convey to celebrate the worldwide release of Among Wolves with a weekend of screenings, special events and panel discussions. The film explores a motorcycle group in Bosnia who confront the trauma of their past and find redemption in acts of charity. They take strength from being together in what was once their frontline, but is now land they visit to protect and nourish a herd of wild horses and hold sacred as a place of healing.

Operation: Ruck 22
South Shore Cultural Center
Ruck 22 is an annual event meant to raise awareness of the suicide epidemic currently plaguing veterans and members of the military community. The 13+ mile march alongside Chicago’s lakefront while carrying 22 pounds of weight signifies the 22 deaths by suicide each day among veterans. Marchers, family and friends were greeted with band-aids, refreshments and the warm hospitality of the South Shore Cultural Center. The march is co-sponsored by the Chicago Park District, the Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the Road Home Program at Rush.

Chicago Bears Celebrate Veterans Day and Host Holiday Party
Road Home and United Club at Soldier Field
The Chicago Bears, through their charitable arm, Bears Care, play an important role in the Road Home Program’s outreach to military families in need. Every year, Bears Care and MillerCoors celebrate Veterans Day by giving over 400 military families a Pre-Thanksgiving feast complete with turkey, cranberry sauce and all the trimmings. And in December, Bears Care and United Airlines throw a party for more than 250 military children in the United Club at Soldier Field. Road Home is proud to help refer deserving families to both events.
