FOR VETERANS IN THE IOP

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

Overview: If you participate in the IOP, you may also be eligible to receive TMS in the second week of treatment. TMS is a non-invasive procedure that stimulates nerve cells in the brain and is shown to be effective in helping alleviate symptoms of PTSD and depression.

Criteria: This treatment option is offered to veterans enrolled and receiving treatment at the IOP. You may be eligible to receive TMS in the second week of treatment.

Prebiotic Supplementation

Overview: This study investigates how the make-up of your gut can impact your brain and PTSD symptoms.

Criteria: Veterans currently enrolled in the IOP

Participation: Consume prebiotic bars during and after your treatment in the IOP, for a total of 12 weeks. You will be asked to provide stool samples so we can examine the effects of prebiotics on your gut.

Participants in this study will be compensated for providing stools samples and completing assessments.

FOR VETERANS IN ILLINOIS

Medication Assisted Treatment for Co-occurring Opioid Use Disorder and PTSD

Overview: If you are a post 9/11 veteran living in Illinois within 20 miles of the University of Chicago and are seeking treatment for both PTSD and Opioid Use Disorder, you may be eligible for this study.

Participation would include medication-based treatment for Opioid Use Disorder in addition to one week of virtual Cognitive Processing Therapy.

Participants must be 18 years old and reside in Illinois.

Medication visits are conducted in-person at the University of Chicago. Medication will be provided for free.

Participation will last up to a year and participants will receive compensation for completing assessments.

FOR VETERANS OR ANYONE WITH TRAUMA

Research studies for veterans, family members, and civilians with PTSD. All participants must be 18 years or older and reside in Illinois.

Currently Recruiting:
Comparing 1-Week Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Relaxation Training

Upcoming:
Combined 1-week Virtual CPT and Stellate Ganglion Block Treatment

Overview: This study compares 1-week Cognitive Processing Therapy AND either a Stellate Ganglion Block OR a placebo injection. A Stellate Ganglion Block is a minimally invasive injection of medication in the neck which helps provide symptom relief for those with PTSD by working with the nervous system. The procedure is safe with very minimal risk or side effects. We are studying how effective a Stellate Ganglion Block is when combined with Cognitive Processing Therapy. To do so, participants will be randomized to either an active Stellate Ganglion Block or a placebo injection and then complete 1-week of CPT.

Participants will be required to attend one study visit at Rush to receive their injection by a trained professional.

Participants must be 18 years old and reside in Illinois.

Participants will be compensated for completing study assessments

Upcoming:
Using Wearable Technology to Detect Symptoms of PTSD

Participants in this trial will wear a device on the wrist called a BioStrap for 1-month prior to PTSD treatment to help us learn more about how individuals’ experience symptoms of PTSD in real time.

Participants will be asked to note when they feel they are being affected by their PTSD symptoms on the device and will complete brief, daily surveys about symptoms and mood.

Participants must be 18 years old and reside in Illinois.

Participants will be compensated for completing study assessments.
